The Monte de la Osa trail runs to the west of Acebo, watched over by Mount Jálama. The route offers constant views of the stunning landscape of Acebo from the heights of Monte de la Osa.Passing through orange and olive orchards, pine trees and oak trees, the trail is surrounded by a multi-coloured mosaic.
The trail begins beside the Fuente del Palacio in the street of the same name, where Acebo’s old, majestic houses can be found. We take the old trail which leads to Villamiel and San Martín de Trevejo, passing by the Tres Cruces viewpoint with its 360° views of Acebo and its surroundings.
Smallholdings with fruit trees and olive orchards accompany us on this section of the trail as we begin to leave the village behind us. Little by little the countryside changes to become dominated by meadows with oak trees which in turn give way to flatter areas of pasture.
A stone path leads us uphill through an environment in which shrubland is interspersed with pine and oak trees.
A dense oak wood surrounds us and we are immersed in a spot where time seems to stand still. We can appreciate the effort to which the people of these lands have gone, constructing terraces, taming the mountain to make use of the land for their livestock.
We complete the uphill section and take the trail on the left. Once again the impressive form of Mount Jálama comes into view, this time as a close-up. The perfect moment to take a break and enjoy the beautiful scenery which surrounds us.
The trail levels out and passes through a wide valley where oak woods are used for grazing and the bells of livestock ring out. As is the case in much of the trail, Mount Jálama is a constant presence once again.
As we proceed along the trail we delight in the panoramic views taking in much of Acebo and the Sierra de Gata, a picture perfect scene.
Pine trees dominate the next stretch, infusing the atmosphere with their characteristic scent. At this point we take the track on the right heading uphill.
Once again we traverse a flatter section of the trail accompanied by meadows, kitchen gardens and olive orchards, with views of the tangle of the village streets and the church as a backdrop, indicating we are on the final stretch of the trail.
